Robots are slowing becoming more and more advanced to the point where they can almost act like human beings. This arises the question whether or not robots should be given rights just like human beings. Even then there is always the question job how much freedom should robots be given, for example if we give them complete free will they may become sentient making them impossible to control. Therefore we should give them right following Asimov’s 3 fundamental laws of robotics:
- A robot may not injure a human being or, through inaction, allow a human being to come to harm.
- A robot must obey the orders given it by human beings except where such orders would conflict with the First Law.
- A robot must protect its own existence as long as such protection does not conflict with the First or Second Laws.
If we create rights for robots using these 3 fundamental laws it shouldn’t create any issue but there is still the issue of human greed, we can see this from the introduction of war robots which break basically all the laws of robotics. Seeing this if we were to give robots rights we would need to do a lot more inept research into the topic before making a valid judgement.
